Authors: Dr Khondaker Golam Moazzem, Mohammad Ali

The main objective of this paper is to analyse the performance of the power and energy sector over the last one decade with a view to identify the areas of weaknesses and challenges and to put forward a set of recommendations on long term sustainability. From methodological point of view, present exercise is a gap analysis on the sector with a view to identify the weaknesses (Fig. 1). Most of the data has been ccollected from the secondary sources such as Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB), Petrobangla, Rural Electrification Board (REB), Bangladesh Economic Review and World Bank. Besides, various newspaper reports (national and abroad) have been used as references. The structure of the document is to highlight the key issues of concerns and to raise questions which need to be answered. However, one of the limitations of the study is that some of the information collected from the newspaper reports which have been used in the report as references need cross-checking.
