Addressing Power and Energy related Challenges: Proposed Measures in the National Budget FY2023-24

The challenges of the power and energy sector need special attention. The National Budget for FY2023-24 has been placed in the Parliament on 1 June 2023. Traditionally, the power and energy sector is one of the top priority sectors in the National Budget. The energy and power sector has been confronting a number of challenges which adversely affected all kinds of economic activities at households, agriculture, industries and businesses. It is expected that the upcoming national budget will take into cognizance of these challenges and a number of measures are expected in the budget for power and energy sector. The budget is also expected to address the long-term commitment of developing clean energy and power sector in the country. CPD addressed these concerning issues from the perspective of allocative priorities of the national budget as well as long term development of clean energy and power sector in the country.

The dialogue was attended by Mr. Mostofa Azad Chowdhury Babu, Senior Vice-President of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce & Industries, Professor Dr Ijaz Hossain, Formerly with Department of Chemical Engineering at BUET, Professor Badrul Imam, Department of Geology at University of Dhaka, and Professor Dr M Shamsul Alam, Dean, Faculty of Engineering at Daffodil International University. Dr Khondaker Golam Moazzem, Research Director at the Centre for Policy Dialogue, moderated the dialogue.
